The American College of Radiology (ACR), the Society of Breast Imaging and other medical associations recommend that women begin getting a mammogram, every year, at age 40.

An annual mammogram could be the difference between early detection of a less invasive cancer, with minor life-changing treatment, versus battling a late-stage cancer, with aggressive and disruptive treatment. Screening mammograms can detect tiny lumps in the breast two to three years before you or your healthcare provider can feel anything. Don’t wait until you suspect a problem!

About 85% of breast cancers occur in women who have no family history of breast cancer. These occur due to genetic mutations that happen because of the aging process and life in general, rather than inherited mutations.

Screening mammography saves lives, and it’s one of the easiest steps women can take to be as healthy as possible and catch a possible breast cancer early.

Connecticut law has expanded and requires health insurance policies to cover a baseline mammogram for women age 35 to 39 and a screening mammogram every year for women age 40 or older. In addition, the law also mandates coverage for additional diagnostic screening.
